Purity Life Improves Energy Efficiency with 19 New Dock Seals

Purity Life, a leading Ontario natural food company, partnered with Northern Dock Systems to improve loading dock efficiency and reduce energy loss at its Mississauga facility.

The project involved replacing aging dock seals with 19 new Blue Giant Adjustable Head Curtain Dock Seals (BG200), including 18 openings measuring 96″ x 120″ and one opening measuring 108″ x 120″. The new dock seals were installed on existing steel jamb and brick surfaces. The head curtain design creates a tight seal around trailers of varying heights, helping keep conditioned air inside while blocking weather, dust, insects, and other contaminants.

Significant Energy Savings

The dock seal upgrade is expected to generate $9,614 in annual energy savings, helping Purity Life lower operating costs while improving overall facility efficiency.

Even more impressive, 100% of the project cost was covered through a one-time rebate from the local utility company, resulting in an immediate return on investment and allowing Purity Life to begin benefiting from energy savings right away.

Improved Temperature Control

Loading docks are one of the biggest sources of energy loss in a warehouse or distribution facility. The new BG200 dock seals help minimize air leakage around docked trailers, reducing drafts and maintaining more consistent indoor temperatures. By keeping conditioned air inside the building, Purity Life can reduce unnecessary heating and cooling costs throughout the year.

Enhanced Food Safety and Cleanliness

For food distribution facilities, controlling contaminants is essential. The new dock seals create a tighter barrier between the building and incoming trailers, helping prevent insects, pests, dust, moisture, and outdoor debris from entering the facility.
