High-Performance Door Systems Built for Emergency Response for Fire Stations
When seconds matter, every component of a fire station must perform flawlessly. Northern Dock Systems partnered with Percon Construction on the new Caledon Fire Station 310 project, supplying and installing a complete door package designed to support safe, efficient, and dependable emergency operations. The project included four-fold apparatus bay exit doors, springless sectional entrance doors, and an insulated garbage room door, all engineered for the demanding environment of a modern fire station
When Every Second Matters, Four-Fold Doors Deliver
For emergency services, fast and reliable access can make all the difference. Caledon Fire Station 310 was equipped with three Door Engineering FF300 Four-Fold Doors as the exit doors. Providing fast opening speeds of up to 24 inches per second, significantly faster than conventional overhead and coiling doors that typically operate between 8 and 12 inches per second.
The faster opening speed helps emergency vehicles get on the road quicker while reducing the amount of conditioned air that escapes from the building. This improves energy efficiency, supports year-round comfort, and helps lower operating costs. Unlike traditional overhead doors, the horizontal opening motion of Four-Fold doors maintains maximum visibility throughout the door cycle, improving safety for firefighters, pedestrians, and vehicle operators.

Springless SafeDrive Technology Reduces Downtime and Maintenance
The three entrance doors feature SDI C175 Springless SafeDrive Sectional Doors, combining high-speed operation with a maintenance-friendly design. Unlike traditional sectional doors that rely on springs requiring regular maintenance and replacement, the SafeDrive system uses a springless design that eliminates costly spring repairs and reduces long-term maintenance requirements.
The SafeDrive operator delivers smooth, quiet performance while supporting faster door cycles that improve station efficiency and vehicle throughput. Combined with R-16 insulated panels, Low-E glass sections, weather seals, and advanced safety devices, the doors help create a more energy-efficient, comfortable, and reliable environment for firefighters and station personnel.

Natural Light Improves Visibility and Comfort
The project also included a 6′ x 8′ insulated SDI C175 garbage room door featuring R-16 insulated panels, weather sealing, and a full-view Low-E tempered glass section. The vision panel allows natural light to enter the space, creating a brighter, more comfortable environment for station personnel while improving visibility, reducing reliance on artificial lighting, and supporting overall building energy efficiency.

To further support safe operations, every apparatus bay door was equipped with advanced safety features including light curtains, presence sensors, loop detectors, programmable controls, and safety edges.
