Project Overview

Over time, an aging loading dock can become difficult to maintain and may create safety concerns. That was the case at an Ottawa hospital, where older dock equipment and damaged concrete needed to be replaced. To solve these issues, Northern Dock Systems completed a full loading dock upgrade that included concrete pit repairs, a new hydraulic dock leveler, a rolling aluminum service door, dock seals, and steel face dock bumpers.

Rebuilding the Loading Dock from the Ground Up

The project started with the removal of the old dock equipment. To help speed up the project, Northern Dock Systems installed the new dock leveler with a 4-sided pour-in dock pan. Because the concrete work and dock installation could be completed together, the overall installation process was more efficient. As a result, the project moved forward more quickly and helped reduce downtime at the loading dock. In addition, the new concrete created a strong, secure foundation for the dock equipment, helping ensure reliable performance for years to come.

Upgrade Reliability with a New Hydraulic Dock Leveler

To improve safety and daily efficiency, Northern Dock Systems installed a new H6008H hydraulic dock leveler with electrical controls. The leveler’s durable powder-coated finish helps resist rust and corrosion, providing years of reliable, low-maintenance operation. Finally, the equipment was fully tested and commissioned to ensure safe and dependable performance from day one

Better Protection Against Weather and Daily Impacts

To help seal the building during loading and unloading, two BG200 Head Curtain Dock Seals were installed. One was installed at the door position where we were replacing the equipment, and the other was installed at the other position that did not need replacing yet. This helps reduce drafts and provides better protection from the weather.

In addition, new steel face dock bumpers were installed to help protect the building from trailer impact and everyday wear.

Long-Lasting Security with a New Rolling Aluminum Service Door

Finally, Northern Dock Systems installed a new rolling aluminum service door. After installation, the door was adjusted, tested, and commissioned to ensure safe and dependable operation. As a result, the hospital now has a durable door solution designed for heavy daily use.
